Speed matters. Most kitchen fires escalate in under three minutes. A correctly-sited fire blanket lets anyone — even children or older adults — act before flames flash over.
Fire blankets are not a replacement for extinguishers or a 999 call; they are the fastest, cleanest first-aid tool for very small, early-stage fires and clothing fires.
Fire needs heat, fuel and oxygen. Sound the alarm & call 999 – never fight a fire alone.
Turn off the heat (if safe).
Pull the black tabs down; keep the blanket between you and the flame.
Place – don’t throw. Lay the blanket away from you, advancing until the fire is completely covered.
Leave in place until totally cool (20–30 min).
After use: treat as single-use; replace immediately.
For burning clothing: wrap, pat down from head to feet, then cool with water for 20 min.
Size matters. 1 × 1 m is fine for most hobs; 1.2 × 1.8 m better for elderly care or clothing fires.
Mount at eye level (1.5 m) between the likely fire source and your exit — never directly above the hob.

Not magically flame-proof. If the blanket itself ignites or the fire spreads beyond its edges, evacuate.
Check the label for oil fires. Some cheap imports fail hot-oil tests; the Netherlands recalled several brands in 2014 for this reason.Wikipedia
Never re-use or store a wet/contaminated blanket.
Training beats panic. Include blanket drills in workplace fire-warden sessions.
